WOW. I recently finished one of the most heartfelt and sincere devotionals I believe I have ever read. I am passionate about marriage, my husband and maintaining the sweet connection we have always had together, therefore I am hungry for any material written to contribute to a healthy marriage. We have not faced many trials together nor overcome significant adversity. However, I am never so naïve that I believe it would not happen to me; therefore I am increasingly aware of what other women face in their marriages. Struggles are very real, painful and overwhelming. But our God is greater.
WHAT IS IT ABOUT? This is not just another devotional to collect dust on your shelf. This sweet little book is a breath of fresh air inspired by the Lord Himself. I believe the author, Jennifer Smith, has had an intense face to face encounter with God. I believe He truly changed her heart and soul by reaching deep down and divinely touching and inspiring the darkest, most intimate parts of her very womanhood. She has been transformed and renewed and she shares her heart on how to love, honor and cherish God and our husbands with a humble honesty and sincerity. The result of her obeying God’s calling on her life is the covenant marriage she knows today; the one He fully intended for her to have all along. I warn you, this is no easy read. Be prepared to be challenged. If you do the “work”, you will be richly and deeply rewarded.
IS IT FOR ME? If you are a woman, then yes. If you are married or single, hoping to one day be married, you will benefit. This unique 30-Day Devotional is a perfect read for you whether you find yourself in a happy, thriving marriage like myself, or a struggling relationship that is overwhelmed with sadness, lack of hope, great despair and no direction. It is for Christian couples and unequally yoked couples alike. Simply writing this book is a testament to God’s great love for His daughters. I believe it is Jennifer’s desire for her readers to grow closer to God through a holy relationship with our husbands; and written from a place that once knew a deep anguish, brokenness and despair. Speaking from a heart obviously devoted to God, she carefully and strategically guides her readers through a 30 day transformational journey to a whole and happy marriage.
HOW CAN I BENEFIT THE MOST? I read through it twice. The first time I scoured the Table of Contents looking for days “relevant” to my relationship and I read multiple chapters in one sitting. DO NOT do this; you are robbing yourself of many blessings. There are 30 chapters so read one per day. This little devotional is strategically and beautifully written and I strongly suggest you start on day one; read, pray, ponder and take the appropriate action. It is not a replacement for your Bible; it is a companion. Take it slowly and seriously and you will be richly and abundantly rewarded. Take your sweet and precious time. Each chapter is rich with scripture and wisdom. Take the “Challenge” seriously, do not skip this part. Be sure to journal your thoughts and feelings. This will be a real treasure when you can look back one day and see how far you have come! And when you have finished the thirty days, go ahead and start all over again on Day 31….make this your daily devotional until its message is ingrained on the surface and into the depths of your heart.
SHOULD I PURCHASE IT? So many women have been blessed by Jennifer’s writing. I am one of them. I believe many marriages are thriving today because she was obedient and humble enough to share her story and write this devotional. Growth inevitably happens when we care for and nurture our marriages. Spiritual growth happens when we spend time in the Father’s presence. Trust me; you cannot afford to pass this opportunity by. Your marriage deserves it.
